Before running Grid Warrior, take note of the following information:
BACKGROUND PROCESSING
The animation of moving objects in Grid Warrior should be smooth, especially when there are few objects on the screen. If instead the animation has a start-stop-start-stop appearance about it, this probably means that some program or system extension is stealing processing time from the game.
If you experience this problem, try quitting other applications, or disabling system extensions (with the Extensions control panel). Or, you can temporarily disable all system extensions by booting up with the Shift key held down.
AFTER DARK™ 3.0 INCOMPATIBILITY
If you have After Dark 3.0 from Berkeley Systems installed on your computer, it will probably not work with Grid Warrior. However, Grid Warrior should work just great with After Dark 3.0b or a more recent version. If you have After Dark version 3.0, you can get a free upgrade to version 3.0d from the Internet. Or, simply turn off After Dark before running Grid Warrior.
The 3.0d updater can be acquired from the Internet by pasting the following URL into the “Location” field of Netscape Navigator, and then pressing the Return key:
Grid Warrior should run fine even if your monitor is set to more than 256 colors. However, you may need to make an adjustment to the amount of memory allocated to Grid Warrior. Click once on the Grid Warrior application, then select “Get Info” from the Finder’s “File” menu. The Get Info box will then allow you to increase the amount of memory allocated to the Grid Warrior application.
Although Grid Warrior runs best on a PowerPC processor, you may still enjoy playing it on a fast 68040 processor. However, you will almost certainly need to set your monitor to 256 colors. Due to mysterious factors which the authors of Grid Warrior have been unable to fathom, some graphics functions in Apple’s ROM do not seem to behave correctly in more than 256 colors on a 68040 system. If, while playing the game, your character seems to drift in and out of visibility, this is likely the problem you are experiencing. Reduce the setting of your Monitors control panel to 256 colors and relaunch the Grid Warrior application.
